Living Life

Toowoomba getting smashed. Furniture from a nearby store strewn everywhere!

Toowoomba getting smashed. Furniture from a nearby store strewn everywhere! (pic by Isaac Moody)

Today I was working from home when I noticed via my twitter news feed these shocking photos and video’s coming out of Toowoomba!  Toowoomba’s is where Easterfest the festival I work for is held.  A picture here of somewhere near Queens park where the festival is held!  Isaac Moody, my boss said “Downtown Toowoomba is like a war zone. The damage is immense… hundreds of cars wrecked (if not over a thousand), roads torn up and washed away, bridges collapsed, debri everywhere, mud everywhere.

The worst part of this is that Toowoomba never really flood in a major way and has never flooded like this so unlike in other areas no one was prepared.”  Read more about it here.

At least seven lives have been lost and still many are missing.  Cars where picked up and strewn all over the place like rag dolls.

It’s hard to fathom the magnitude of this flood.  Last week when I was blogging about it I was speaking about towns and cities that were 10 -12 hours drive away… now towns just over 3omins drive away are inundated and experiencing the same shattering floods.  Up to 5000 residents have been told to abandon their homes in low-lying parts of the Lockyer Valley, west of Brisbane, amid the worst flooding in more than a century.  (see more here) Literally houses being swept away.  Whist towns, Chinchilla and Dalby (Dalby for their 5th time!!!) are being told they have to ‘re-evacuate’ because water is once again heading their way!   Imagine that!  Cleaning up for a few days only to have go through all that heart break again.

Mind blowing footage taken today in Toowoomba -

ABC news footage.  Tree’s clean being ripped out by a van thrashing through the torrents of water.

And this footage from Channel seven news.  People literally being swept away in cars.  This kind of footage should be kept for the movies!!!

More chaotic photos here.

Please keep Australia in your prayers!  This place is a disaster zone.  How you can help?  Click here.  Also I’m sure there are going to be plenty of more ways to volunteer…

The Premier has described it as a “desperate and grim situation”… if my American’s could pray through the night… the floods are ravaging there way through the Lockyer Valley and 1000′s of homes are being evacuated.
