My friend out in Theodore took this photo of her son on Boxing Day when they went out to check on damage.
Many Aussies have had ‘Christmas stolen’ from them them this year. More then 1000 Queenslander’s have now been evacuated from their homes due to widespread flooding and king tides since Christmas day.
I’ve been trying to keep in touch with friends in Theodore who’s whole town was evacuated last night – all 300 of them – by air. All roads in and out of the town cut. My friends are on a property about 10mins from town and are stranded there – last I heard. It’s a shocking blow for them (and it seems like for farmers statewide). In October, when I was out on their farm last, they were talking about how unprecedented rain fall was preventing them from harvesting their wheat crops at the optimum time. Since then, they’ve lost soya bean and chick pea crops. If it’s not droughts it’s floods for these tough farmers. Please say a few prayers for Queenslanders impacted by this new disaster.

Footage from Chinchilla here. Some friends are stranded out their too. They had a friend go to town to get them a bottle of milk via a little crop duster plane!

It seems like only yesterday, I was hearing the same devastating news in Nashville when #Flood2010 happened and wrote about it here. The devastation and loss is huge. Maybe we’ll have to organise work parties to go out to these country towns to help out like what happened in Nashville. It’s hard to imagine loosing everything to swollen river… but unfortunately for many that is what’s happened. Not just a house full of memories and treasures but also properties full of livelihood.
Be aware…and be in prayer for those around the world suffering today.
