Aussie’s in Texas
Howdy friends! I’m finally getting to blog after our first band trip to Texas this past week! Driving 700miles in a sweet ride sure makes a difference! Drive… take a nap in a bunk… watch a movie… drive a bit more whilst listening to Mark Driscoll podcasts. (Highly recommend the Peasant Princess series!)
Us Aussies were all a bit ‘Wowed’ by the mega overpasses. Struth… there are like four single (or multiple) lanes high going over the top of each other. Not sure how many feet high… but driving on the top one made me feel like I was on a roller coaster and glad I wasn’t scared of heights!
The first day we arrived (after driving all day) Alabaster Box had an interview at 89.7 Power FM with our mate Drew Mitchell. They’re great supporters of AB! Then we played at Seekers Coffee House where I got to catch up with and American mate, Christa Brewer who I met in like 2003. I made her sleep in a swag by a fire on an ‘outback’ trip we made. Good times!
Friday we got to check out the Texas Cowboys training grounds and headquarters. Very enlightening experience – even for a non-football lover. We got to see their locker room and see all the American’s with us get really impressed by the famous players names on the front of them and what ‘goodies’ they had in ‘em. Tony Romo has an ‘Urban Cowboy’ DVD on display… We even got to try and kick a goal in the indoor training field… didn’t happen for me… but Tim and Brett from Alabaster Box got kicked one from like the 40 mark… I thought they put in a pretty good effort for ‘soccer’ players!
Lastly… what we came to Texas for – Valley Ranch Baptist Church’s winter retreat. What an amazing time. Speaker, Peter Newman from Kanakuk Kamp shared… very anointed message. Hard for any of us to go home not challenged! We were also highly amused by the ‘Team word play’ guys from Hollywood. All round amazing time! Thanks Tom Stickney!
Definitely wanna get to more places in Texas in the future…
