A ‘valentine’ gift of love

Last weekend I ended up at this ‘Valentine Chocolate sampling party’ at the magician Brock Gill’s house. It was awesome. At the end of the night Brock and his wife, Auny shared about their recent trip to Ecuador where they met a family who were struggling to pay their $13 a month rent! You and I could easily spend that at Starbucks in a week! They only had just over $400 left to pay their whole mortgage off. So that’s when Brock and Auny had the great idea of putting on this party to raise money to pay it off… $391 raised in one night! What a blessing the money will be to this family. They will be able to invest money into starting their mechanic business and provide for their family. Think about it next time you have a party… maybe we can somehow remember the poor and the oppressed and how blessed we are to even have a vehicle to get ourselves to the party! Or have the ability to read the invitation! Photographer Keely Scott

Another challenge for me from the night was when Spence Smith shared a story about their visit to a compassion project. When the children were asked how many of them were sponsored many didn’t put their hands up… because even though they were sponsored by families somewhere around the world some had never received mail from their families. This was how they determined whether or not they were sponsored! Doesn’t that just bring you a reality check! Needless to say I came home and wrote my little boy, Telvin a letter. Check out Spence Smith’s blog. He is currently in Uganda with a team of bloggers who are letting us know what’s happening outside of our box!
